We Survived Our First Week Together!!
I am happy to say that my first week with Division 23 was a success! I have enjoyed getting to know your kids this week and am looking forward to having a great time with them until the end of the year!
Just a few reminders:
-Please send your child’s message bag to school each morning so that if there are things to come home, they have a safe place to carry them. If your child’s bag has been misplaced, please let me know and I will make a new one.
-We have started adding to our red “I Can Read” books again – I hope you enjoy reading “I’m a Little Snowman” with your child this weekend!
I am still waiting for the following students to bring them back to school:
-Sophie
-Sergio
-Logan W.
Please send these back asap so we can start adding our poems ☺
-I would like to make sure all students have a set of spare clothes at school – if you know that your child does not currently have a set at school, please put together a Ziploc bag with a pair of pants, underwear, shirt, and socks. Also, if you think your child may have grown out of their current spare clothes, feel free to send in a new set and I will send the old set home.
-Lastly, we have SKATING again on Monday morning! Just like last week, we will be leaving at 9:00 am. Please remember to pack your child’s helmet, snow pants, booster seat, and skates. Thank you in advance to our volunteer parent drivers. I believe most are the same as last week, but if you haven’t driven yet, please go to the office before school on Monday morning to fill out a volunteer driver form ☺
Enjoy your weekend!!
Ms. Baird :)

Glitter Season is Here!
Christmas is just around the corner, and that means that the Kindergarten craft and glitter season is about to begin! It is my absolute favourite time of the year!! As we create our keepsakes, we will need somewhere safe to keep them before bringing them home to you. Please send an empty shoe box to school with your child's name on it. We will be adding treasures to it frequently over the next few weeks.
Our Visit to the Fort Langley Firehall!
We had a wonderful visit to the Fort Langley Firehall today. The students learned about fire safety through a whole host of activities that included role playing and videos. We learned to stop drop and roll and how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency. The students also got to climb all over the amazing fire trucks! SO much fun and learning. I challenge you to talk about an at-home escape route and safety plan. Please talk to your children about getting out safely and finding a meeting spot. Thank you to all of the amazing parents who stepped up and drove for our field trip today. We are so grateful!! have a scroll through our pics!
UPDATE November 15th
Thank you all for attending our student led conferences last week. It was very special to see your children sharing their excitement for learning. You are their biggest fans, and they were very proud of the learning that is happening in our class.
Please send back your Fresh Grade Permission forms as soon as possible. If you would like to see the program in action, please do not hesitate to ask. I am very excited to be able to SHOW your child's learning rather than simply telling you about it :)
The FIREHOUSE FIELD TRIP will go ahead as planned. Thank you for stepping up and volunteering to drive. I really appreciate your help! Please make sure to fill out a driver form at the office BEFORE school starts on Monday morning. You will need your insurance forms and your driver's license.
November and December Scholastic Orders went home on Friday. They are due Friday November 21st. Orders will arrive before Christmas Break if you are ordering for presents :)

Willow View Farm!
We had such a great day at Willow View Farm, even in the rain! With visits to the barn , the pumpkin patch and a trip on a tractor, the children (and parents) had a great time. Everybody got to try the delicious Apple Cider and we brought back specially chosen pumpkins! Thank you to all of the adults who were able to share our day!
Parachute Fun!
Making Apple Crisp! Yum! Thanks Willow View for the Apples!
Update October 25th
Willow View Farm FieldTrip
We are so excited to be going on our very first field trip...and it's on A BUS!!!! The children are very excited to go.. On Thursday we began our "I WONDER" books, where we wondered about the farm :) I will be finalizing parent helpers and student groups tomorrow, so please look for a note in the message bag if you volunteered to help. Just a reminder that if you are coming as a parent helper, we ask that you leave siblings at home. If you are driving yourself, you are welcome to bring siblings.
Please send students with a PLASTIC SHOPPING BAG (to bring home their pumpkins), BOOTS, RAIN JACKETS, and clothes that can get dirty: The pumpkin patch is messy business :) Also, please send a POCKET SNACK...something that can easily fit in their jacket pocket to each at the pumpkin patch.
Student-Led Conferences
November 5th and 6th are EARLY DISMISSAL DAYS! Your child will be dismissed at 1:45pm on BOTH days so that we may meet with parents AND students!
Student Led-Conference times in my classroom are as follows:
• Wednesday November 5th from 2:00-4:00pm.
• Thursday November 6th from 2:00-4:00pm and again from 5:30-7:30pm
This is a chance for your child to showcase the work that they have been doing so far! It will give you a chance to see what goes on in our classroom as well as to chat with me about your child’s progress. Generally, this “student-led” conference takes about 20 minutes. This means that your child leads you around the classroom, shows you what we have been working on, and then brings you to me for a chat.
Please feel free to come in at any one of the above listed times. You do not need to make an appointment. It is my hope to see each of you here! If, after the student led conference, you feel the need for an additional conference, this will be arranged for another time.

Ten Apples Up On Top!
Update October 16th
Hello!
Tonight is Meet the Teacher at James Kennedy! It will be a very informal evening as we have already met during gradual entry interviews. Mrs. O'Shea and I will be helping to serve dessert in the gym off and in throughout the evening, so if you arrive to find me not in the class, please come down for a goodie and chat in the gym :)
Your child is welcome to show you the art hanging in our classroom, and I would love for you to see where your child is learning, but this will not be a formal interview time…Those happen later in November :)

Update! October 7th
Wow! I can't believe that we are already into October. Our time together is flying by and we are doing so much learning! Today we Read the Story "Ten Apples Up On Top" and wrote our first class book. We have been talking about what the students "are" and this week we have discovered already that they are amazing Mathematicians, Artists, READERS and Authors! Here is a picture of us with our Pete the Cat Hats:
•Sharing has begun in our class! Please take a look under the Special Helper tab to find a schedule of sharing and what is expected.
•Library is MONDAY afternoon. Students will choose 2 new books each Monday and return them the following Monday.
•I CAN READ books will come home every Friday. Please return them Monday or Tuesday as we will add a new poem each week. These books also go in our Literacy Bins and are some of our daily reading materials :)

Welcome to Mrs. Anderson's Class
Welcome to my class! I truly enjoyed our first day together! The class lists have been posted, and you child has probably already told you about my class. Today we read Pete the Cat...Rocking in My School Shoes and did a school tour. While we were unable to find Pete, we DID find the yummy goldfish crackers he left behind ;) The children really enjoyed making their very own Pete the Cat hats!
Just a few reminders:
1. Please sign and return your STUDENT VERIFICATION forms. These allow us to make sure we have all of the necessary contact information for your child. Once I have received the forms back (with the image release signed on the back) I can begin sharing photos of our journey and learning in Kindergarten...YAY!
2. Please remember to send the $40 supply fee if you have not already done so.
3. Please send your child dressed for the weather. We will be going out even in the rain :)
4. Please make sure your child has SLIP ON or VELCRO inside shoes :)
5. PARKING at James Kennedy is at a premium. We have over 620 students and just as many parents at our school. Our first priority is student safety, so please park only in designated parking spots. If you are able, we do encourage you to walk, but know this is not always possible. Thanks for being mindful of the students' safety. Together we will make a great team!!
Thanks so much!
Kim Anderson

Welcome to Kindergarten!
Hello! Welcome to a wonderful year of learning. I am so excited to be working with all of you this year! As you peruse the website, take time to read about the ABC's of Kindergarten. These pages will be full of information to help you navigate our year together.
This year, our gradual entry will be accelerated due to the late start to the school year. Do not worry! We will take the first few days at a pace your child can manage :) There will be many opportunities for breaks and play throughout our day. During the first few days, you may want to send an extra snack as children often find themselves hungry in the afternoon!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available at the door or via email or phone. I invite you to share with me information or stories about your child. We will take this adventure together!
Sincerely,
Kim Anderson
