SNAILS!
We have had so much fun studying snails and their habitats. We did science experiments to see if they liked wet or dry, we drew scientific pictures of them and we spent a lot of time playing with them. On the last day with our snails, the kids found a safe spot in the forest to let them go!
Our Visit with Chameleons!
Spring Chicks!
Parachute Fun!
We Are Royalty!
Here are our Kindergarten Jewels all dressed up in their capes and crowns. The kids really enjoyed this unit!
We Are Mathematicians!
We have been exploring 3D shapes and whether or not they can slide stack or roll. THe kids have really had fun building structures out of the 3D shape blocks.
Thank You!!!
Now that we are enjoying a rest, I thought I would take this opportunity to thank you for coming to our student-led conferences last week. The students were so very excited to share their learning with you. As we move into third term, we will be learning about animals that hatch from eggs, dinosaurs and geometric shapes. We will continue to work on letter sounds, and for some, we will begin early reading strategies. To support learning at home, please be sure you are reading to your child each night. Fun dice and card games are also helpful in cementing math concepts taught so far. Please know that the children work very hard during our school day and are spent when they come home. Especially now that the weather is warmer, they are running around outside much more and exerting a lot more energy. I would encourage you to send an extra snack or two in your child's lunch box as they seem to be munching through what is being sent each day. Enjoy the rest of your break! I look forward to seeing you all on March 31st.
Valentine's Day and Hundred's Day!
Thank-you for all of your patience as our classroom has been painted. Your children were absolute troopers, and the best nomads I have ever seen! We worked in the hall, the music room, and several classrooms throughout the week, and got quite a lot accomplished. We also spent time with the school iPads...so much fun! We are back on our room, and pick-up and drop-off can resume from our very own classroom door :)
Next Friday is Valentine's Day! it is very exciting to get "mail" or Valentine's cards from our friends. While it is not mandatory, children are more than welcome to bring Valentine's for their classmates. I would ask that if you choose to send Valentine's cards, that you send one for EVERY child rather than selecting a few. I would also ask that you have your child write "from ________" and their name rather than addressing them individually to the students. (It saves us a great deal of tears and energy when Children can't find their friend's bags. Rather, they can drop one into every bag without issue :)
If you would like to send a treat for Valentine's we would gladly enjoy!
THURSDAY FEBRUARY 20th is our 100th DAY OF SCHOOL! (Our schedule varies from the rest of the school, as we don't begin counting until after gradual entry in September)
We will be doing much counting, graphing and learning about the number 100! As a treat, we make "100 pieces of trail mix" which the students count out themselves. In order to have enough trail mix components, I would ask if you could please bring a package or two of the following: (I will need 3 packages of each item)
Goldfish
Pretzels
Chocolate chips
Cheerios
Mini Marshmallows
Craisins
Smarties
Bugles
Mini Ritz Crackers
Shreddies/Life cereal
Thank-you so much!

PAINTING!!
Our school is currently being painted! We have some very hard working district painters in our school making it beautiful. The process will take a while as they move from room to room, and we are coming up with innovative and fun ways to learn while it happens. Our classroom will be painted this coming week, meaning we will be working in a variety of different spaces until it is done. Please have your child line up in our normal spot each day. They will be returned to the same spot at day's end. Where we are throughout the day will change, but we will keep this procedure the same :) If your child is late arriving to school, please take them directly to the office and they will help you find us :)
SKATING!
We have had two very successful skating lessons so far. It is truly amazing how quickly the students pick up these skills. We have four more lessons to go. If you are able to help drive, it would be greatly appreciated. Pop me a quick email or send a note in your child's message bag to let me know when you are available. Take a look at our little skaters in the pictures below.
Happy New Year!
Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful time with family and friends and enjoyed the Christmas break. Thank-you all for my amazing gifts! You are such a thoughtful and wonderful bunch, and I truly appreciate your kindness.
We are getting back into the swing of routines and the children are settling nicely, albeit a little tiredly ;) We have begun a unit on Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales. We will also be covering Bears, hibernation and Knights and Castles over the next few months. Students will also shortly begin bringing home Home Reading Books. These will supplement the I Can Read Books.
If you have not returned your child's skating permission form and money, please do so. Our first trip is January 22nd.

Last Day of Classes
Thank-you all for coming to our Kindergarten Gala! The children worked so hard to prepare for you, and I know you were not disappointed. We had so much fun with the crafts afterwards as well :)
Tomorrow is our last day of classes before Christmas Holidays. We will be having PAJAMA DAY at school! Please send your little one in cozy pajamas for the day. As well, if you would like to send treats, please feel free. We have 19 students.
Thank-you for a wonderful fall. I look forward to seeing your children rested and excited after Christmas Break, on January 6th. Please return skating forms as soon as possible after this date. Merry Christmas!

November is Here and Christmas is Near!
As the Christmas season begins, the children will be busy practicing a few songs for our “Gala”! We will be having our own Christmas performance on Thursday, December 12th at 1:30p.m. The children will perform some songs for you in the gym before we invite you all back to our classrooms. The rest of the afternoon will be spent doing a craft with your child. We would encourage all parents to attend as this is a great way to welcome the holiday season and to see your kids in action!
As we move into the middle of November we will be crafting, crafting, crafting! Because the children will be making a variety of crafts and keeping them at school until Christmas Holidays, it is important that we keep them safe and clean. Can you please send a shoe box with your child that will remain at school to collect their treasures :)

November Update
Hi All!
We have had a busy few weeks in Kindergarten. As you may have heard, Ms Thomas has been in our room on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Our Vice Principal Ms Thomsen is away right now and I have been helping Mr McArthur with Administrative duties in the office during her absence. Not to worry, I am in the building and checking on your little ones during this time. I am also working closely with Ms Thomas to ensure the program I have planned is being delivered fully :)
The Kindergarten children have also begun working towards our Christmas Gala! On the afternoon of December 12th, all kindergarten children will be performing in their very own concert for the parents. More information will be coming.

Our Halloween Party
We had so much fun making crafts, sharing snacks and playing bingo! Thank-you to all of the parents for sending treats, helping with crafts, and having such wonderful children! Here are a few pictures from our day!
Halloween
Thursday October 31st is Hallowe’en! It will be an exciting day in kindergarten. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes, however this is not mandatory. Costumes must be school appropriate, meaning that there are no weapons, all body parts are covered, and no masks are worn. As students will be wearing their costumes for the entire day, it helps if costumes are also playground friendly. The morning will go pretty much as usual, with the exception of the kids being dressed up. After lunch we will be rotating through a series of fun stations that include crafts, bingo and cupcake decorating. Thank you for all of your offers! We now have enough volunteers and snacks for the afternoon!

NEXT TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY are EARLY DISMISSAL DAYS! Your child will be dismissed at 1:45pm on BOTH days.
Open House times in my classroom are as follows:
· Tuesday October 22th from 2:00-4:00pm and again from 5:00-7:00pm
· Wednesday October 23th from 2:00-3:30pm.
This is a chance for your child to showcase the work that they have been doing so far! It will give you a chance to see what goes on in our classroom as well as to chat with me about your child’s progress. Generally, this “student-led” conference takes about 20 minutes. This means that your child leads you around the classroom, shows you what we have been working on, and then brings you to me for a chat.
Please feel free to come in at any one of the above listed times. You do not need to make an appointment. It is my hope to see each of you here! If, after the student led conference, you feel the need for an additional conference, this will be arranged for another time.

We're Going to the Pumpkin Patch!
Thank-you to all of you for returning your permission slips to me :) We are very excited about our very first field-trip and our very first trip on a school bus. We will be leaving at 10:30 on Friday morning from the school. We will be returning to the school before the end of the day. Please send your child to school with RAIN BOOTS, RAIN JACKET, POCKET SNACK, and SHOPPING BAG with your child's name on it. The bag will be used to bring home your child's very own pumpkin!
I CAN READ BOOKS!
You child has brought home an I CAN READ BOOK this weekend. Please read through the letter enclosed in the duotang and share the poem with your child. The children are very excited to be "reading" with you at home :)

First Full Week of School
I have really enjoyed spending time with your children this past week. They are a lovely bunch of boys and girls. It promises to be a fun-filled and positive year. This week will be a long but fun week in Kindergarten. This week the children will get their first visits to the Computer Lab (Tuesday), Music class (Thursday and Friday) and LIbrary Book Exchange (Friday). We will also have Gym every day! Please make sure your child has indoor RUNNING shoes with VELCRO closures (unless he or she is able to tie them proficiently). Also, please make sure you have sent a blanket or towel for quiet time in the afternoons. Thank-you for all of your contributions to our potluck lunch. We had a great time!

Potluck Lunch Friday!
On Friday we will be having our potluck lunch! We have had people sign up outside the classroom door, but I wanted to give you the opportunity to email me as well. We have lots of people willing to bring juice, fruit and veggies, but are in need of sandwiches and wraps. As a group of children and parents we will number 40-50, so if several of you could make some sandwiches or wraps that would be fantastic! Cheese, meat and cracker platters would also be great. Please email me if you are able to contribute to the potluck, and what you would like to bring.

Welcome to Kindergarten!
I am so excited to get to know your child. We have much fun and learning to do this year and I am thrilled to be doing this with your support. My goal is to do a brief weekly update to let you know what is going on in our classroom. It is through this website that you will learn of upcoming events, field trips, class schedules and the general happenings in kindergarten. Through this website I hope to give you a window into your child's day to day learning and adventures :) Please notice the tabs at the top of the page. These will take you to the class sharing schedule, calendar of events and ABC's of Kindergarten. This is additional information you will find helpful this year. Under "more" you will find links to some great kids websites that we will be using in our class and during our computer time. My weekly updates will happen right here on the home page of my website.
